"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

What perverse timing to be a blatant shill for the Ayatollahs. Actually, the first story doesn't live up to the title, really. But it seems the author wants to discount all of the oppression brought by the Ayatollahs. See they shut down all free expression, bring economic ruin and will never willingly leave power but som, ehow life goes on and the US should just keep it to themselves.

Yep. life is fine for the students and others in Iran. And of course they don't want Western Style Democracy.

It seems to me that so many of these writers from oppressive places don't really want to defend the murderous regimes as much as they feel that this is a little place that is theirs and theirs alone. Their words are how we know these places and if the regimes go they will lose that special ability to bring us glimpses of these places. It seems almost like their subject is an ant farm to them. They can look into it while carrying on their regular lives and never have to worry about being emotionally attached when the ants die.
