"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Funny, I don't recall any worries about institutional crisis in the EC when members of European governments called or alluded to George Bush or Ariel Sharon as a Nazi. But, suddenly a conservative politician that has pro-America pro-Israel views comes along and makes a stupid Nazi remark and the whoe structure of Europe is about to collapse.

The president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox, said he hopes the row involving Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi will not drag the European Union into long-term crisis.
Speaking on Ireland's RTE radio, Cox said Berlusconi's comparison of a German euro-deputy to a Nazi concentration camp guard is "unparalleled" in his 14 years as a member of the EU parliament.

"I think it would be very helpful to all the parties involved if we could clear this matter," said Cox, who on Wednesday offered Berlusconi the opportunity to withdraw his remarks directed at Germany MEP Martin Schulz.

Cox said he hopes the Nazi jibe, "a highly regrettable incident", will not turn into "some kind of an institutional crisis" at a moment when the EU is supposed to be focusing on drafting a constitution for itself.

"That is the biggest job in hand, and that has to be done with serenity," he said.

"Yesterday took us in another direction."

Bucha girly men.
