"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Fisherman kidnapped by N Korea escapes after 30 years.

After 30 years of detention in North Korea, an abducted fisherman returned home Monday, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said yesterday.

Kim Byeong-do, 50, escaped from the North in April by crossing the Tumen River into China to meet his family there. He had been staying in the South Korean Embassy in Beijing since May 2.

"Mr. Kim arrived at Incheon International Airport Monday afternoon," the official said. "The government is questioning him now."

Mr. Kim was lured by a returning North Korean agent in November 1973 into boarding what he thought was a South Korean fishing boat. Along with the rest of the crew, Mr. Kim was taken to the North. He worked in a plant and on a farm near Hamheung, the North's second-largest city. He is the third abducted fisherman to escape.
