"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Cuba and the EU having a bit of a tiff.

Cuba says it has withdrawn its second bid to join a European Union aid accord, blaming European meddling in its internal affairs.

The European Commission had frozen Cuba's request to join the Cotonou Agreement after the jailing of 75 dissidents and firing squad execution of three men who hijacked a ferry in an attempt to reach the United States.

"This decision put Cuba's request in a limbo and sought to exert pressure on our country by establishing unacceptable conditions and interfering in the internal affairs of Cuba," said a Foreign Ministry statement published on the front page of the ruling Communist Party daily Granma.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry summoned the European Commission delegation's charge d'affaires in Havana, Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff, on Friday to inform him of the cancellation.

The commission shelved Cuba's request on April 30 after Cuba sentenced 75 dissidents and independent journalists to prison terms of up to 28 years and executed the hijackers.
