"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Iraqi embassy in Brazil is burning documents.

Employees at the Iraqi embassy here began burning documents Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police said they could see men outside the embassy burning boxes and large quantities of paper.

The fires started around the same time TV networks began broadcasting images of U.S. Marines toppling a statue of Saddam Hussein in downtown Baghdad, police said.

"Nobody knows what is happening, except that they are burning papers," said a Brasilia police officer who would only identify himself as Sgt. Vlamir.
