"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

I dunno. Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel says he thinks Britain will eventually join an initiative by four EU states to develop closer defence ties.
Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg are due to hold a summit later in April to discuss closer defence integration.

The four countries opposed the U.S.-led war in Iraq and called the summit without involving Britain, a major EU military power.

"In a first phase we need a critical core (of countries) which will afterwards become more attractive to the British, especially when we start talking about the arms industry," Michel told the Belgian daily De Morgen on Friday.

"Then they'll get the taste for it," he said.

Oh yeah. I'm sure Britain can't wait to tie that anchor around their necks. And as for taking military appraisals from a FM whose national army uses plastic non-working gun replicas because all that cleaning and maintenence necessary for the real thing is just too much....
