Denmark looks to be a great ally in the rebuilding stage hat is upcoming. Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen already offered peacekeepers and administrators and is trying to round up other EU contries to contribute. And he is not talking about doing it through the UN.

''Fast decisions are needed on national contributions for a stabilisation force in Iraq and that is what the foreign minister and I have spent the morning trying to explore,'' Rasmussen told reporters.

''It is my firm impression that there is an interest for this in a number of countries,'' he said, adding he could give no further details yet.

EU diplomats said Italy, Spain and EU newcomer Estonia had said they were willing to offer contributions.
