"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

CNN is not helping by offering up this defence.

CNN spokeswoman Christa Robinson noted that CNN reporters have frequently been kicked out of Baghdad by angry authorities, most recently a few days after the start of the war.

"The decision not to report these particular events had nothing to do with access, and everything to do with keeping people from being killed as a result of our reporting,'' she said.

But, by Jordan's own admission his silence did not prevent the torture or attempted killings of CNN associates in Iraq. If they were attempting to protect lives wouldn't it have made more sense to disentangle themselves from the situation so that nobody would be in danger of being targeted because CNN may say the 'wrong' thing? Wouldn't this have 'protected' more lives and also saved CNN from having to sell off pieces of its integrity?
