"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Alex Downer, Australian Foreign Minister, says that it wouldn't make sense to give the UN control of postwar Iraq.

Although he has previously called for the UN to play a big role in post-war Iraq, he now says it should not lead the interim administration.

"You would go from foreign control of Iraq in the form of the United States, to foreign control of Iraq in the form of the United Nations - it's much better to go from the first stage to the point where Iraqis are controlling their own country," Mr Downer said.
