Update on Mahathir's idea of an embargo

"Our intention is to avoid this war, but oil is not a weapon in diplomacy, it's a commodity," said a Saudi Foreign Ministry source, echoing comments made earlier Wednesday by Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal at a press conference in Jeddah.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry source also said it's unlikely that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' two largest producers, Saudi Arabia and Iran, would offer their support for any initiative to use oil as a political tool. "From what I understand, no-one would like to take this up," he said.
