"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Go check out the good folks at Zogby Blog. There is a nice deconstruction of Kristof's 02/25 column. Teaser:

A few points related to Kristof's column. It strains the imagination that Kristof would sincerely showcase Ike and Reagan as pillars of the pro-containment wing of the republican party. Ike presided over a war against the North Koreans and Reagan invaded Grenada. Ike didn't destroy the communist North in order to contain them. Rather he sought to contain Soviet and Communist Chinese expansionist aspirations on the Korean peninsula and the entire world. Likewise, Ike's intervention in the Suez crisis was also an attempt to defuse cold war crisis between the U.S. and the Soviets. U.S. pressure on Britain, France, and Israel came on the heals of a Soviet offer to intervene on behalf of the Nasser regime.
