"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Well this should be a good lesson for Europeans that think the EU has the best interest of a united Europe in mind.

The European Commission blundered in the first hours of the crisis when it urged Morocco to retire from the islet insisting Rabat was violating Spanish territorial integrity. The Commission was consequently severely criticised in the diplomatic circles in Brussels for having taken too quickly position in favour of Spain, before coming to a more balanced position.

France, in particular, was irritated by what French diplomats called the Commission’s biased support to Spain.

And of course, it was the simplistic unilateral Americans that negotiated the solution.
