"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Israelis and Palestinians are at a 'secret' meeting in Northern Ireland. Ulster Unionists and IRA leaders were also present to discuss with the two sides how they could get reconcile.

Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness said the Irish representatives had sought to help show the Israelis and Palestinians how they could overcome long-standing enmity. He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme: “I think that we can offer up the view that 10 years ago, if people were told of the type of progress made in South Africa and the north of Ireland, many people wouldn’t have believed it."

The PUP’s David Ervine said that the example of rival sides in the Northern Ireland conflict talking to one another about their differences could point the Israelis and Palestinians towards a way forward. He asked: “What better symbolism is there to say that it can be done? That Martin McGuinness and I are treating each other as civilly as possible – We have many disagreements but we regard each other as people. In regarding each other as people we give ourselves the chance to lead a normal life.”

It may be an exercise in futility but it sounds like a good hearted attempt.
