"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Fred Thompson out to counter the pro-Saddam ads going around the networks.

It's Fred Thompson versus Martin Sheen in a battle of the NBC network stars over war with Iraq.

Thompson has taped a pro-war television ad for the conservative group Citizens United to counter last week's anti-war ad by Sheen for the liberal group MoveOn.org. The former U.S. senator also began a series of television talk show appearances in support of President Bush's Iraq policy.

Last week Thompson said in an interview that he would like the character he plays on "Law & Order," conservative District Attorney Arthur Branch, to run against liberal President Josiah Bartlet, Sheen's character on "The West Wing." The NBC shows are back-to-back on Wednesdays.

Over the weekend Thompson made plans to bring the confrontation to reality television with the help of Citizens United and GOP adman Alex Castellanos.

"My concern is that there is an awful lot of ads out there pounding on the president and his policy on Iraq. And nobody was doing anything on the other side," Thompson said.
