"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Why Libya is a poor choice for head of the UN Human Rights Commission.

International human rights groups that monitor Libya paint a grim picture of practices, including imprisonment of hundreds of political and civic activists, death sentences for nonviolent activists, torture, disappearances and suspected assassinations of numerous political opponents around the world.

In 2001, Gadhafi's paranoid style resulted in the arrests of foreign medical workers who were charged with infecting hundreds of Libyan children with the HIV virus as part of an alleged "plot to destabilize" the country. The fates of the accused Bulgarian and Palestinian nurses and doctors is yet to be settled. But the health care workers' two-year ordeal should be enough to disqualify Libya from the rights post.
