Neat-o. Some of the oldest tropical plants in the world have been discovered locked in the permafrost on a windswept island in the Canadian Arctic. The plants lived 420 million years ago when life was starting to move out of the sea and onto Earth's barren landscape. At the time, Bathurst Island, which is now in northern Nunavut, was near the equator.
